Senna hebecarpa - Wild Senna

Wild Senna is a large native herbaceous perennial that forms an upright clump with attractive compound pinnate foliage. Loose clusters of bright yellow pea-like flowers white with age and bloom in mid summer attracting butterflies.  The flattened legume pods that follow are favored by birds. Grows best with full sun and loamy, moist to mesic well-drained soils.  May need staking in rich soils to prevent flopping.  Tolerates poor soil, drought, and occasional flooding.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance.  As a host plant the foliage and flower buds are often eaten by the Cloudless Sulphur Butterfly caterpiler. Otherwise, no serious pests or disesases.
